Networking the Urban Policy Arena in NRW
Pages 201 - 216

This contribution focuses on innovations in urban governance in the framework of new relationships between local and regional policy-making arenas developing in approaches to ‘experimental regionalisation’. Empirical reference is made to a German city-region in the Rhine-Ruhr area – the city of Duisburg within the Region Niederrhein – in light of the new opportunities for innovation fostered by state-sponsored approaches to regionalisation of structural policies based on decentralised and self-organised forms of mobilisation and co-operation.
The perspective chosen points to the constructivist and co-evolutive dimension of innovation-oriented networking processes, focussing on the transformation of governance settings at the local level as a response to the new environment of regional policy and on the particular dimension represented by local-regional relationships in a perspective of a mutual fertilisation and diffusion of innovative practices.
