Entrepreneurial attitudes. What are their determinants and how important are regional influences?
Pages 185 - 199

Previous studies have shown that attitudes towards entrepreneurship have an impact on the decision to start a new business. People with positive attitudes have a higher propensity to become entrepreneurs than people with negative attitudes. In the light of these results this article analyses the determinants of positive entrepreneurial attitudes. Individual as well as regional characteristics are taken into account. The analysis focuses on three attitude questions which in previous studies were found to be significant drivers of entrepreneurship: the evaluation of the own ability to start a new business, the evaluation of start-up opportunities in the region, and the attitude towards risk. The analysis is based on the individual data of a representative telephone survey in ten German regions.
