Due to transformation of the economy of East Germany new and young firms have to cope with a hard regional economic environment. In contrast, business start-ups in West Germany grow up in a market economy, their development paths can be seen as a benchmark. Based upon a comparative analysis this paper shows the differences and accordances in respect of the foundation, the development paths and the cooperative strategies of young technology- and knowledge-intensive business service firms in Upper Bavaria (Munich Region) and in Thuringia.
