German car suppliers in China

To benefit from the growing car market nearly all of the big car manufactures have established production facilities in China in the last few years. The interdependence with important suppliers has brought many German suppliers to China too. This paper analyses the ways they enter the Chinese market and the difficulties they encounter when setting up joint ventures and producer-supplier-relationships with Chinese firms. It is shown that the differences in the institutional settings and industrial standards between China and Germany impede the formation of efficient German-Chinese supplier networks.
